A gathering for the GODZ

MYNAME IS DOUG LEE AND KNOW ED FROM SOME OF HIS PREVIOUS BANDS. I VOLUNTEER FOR AN ART GROUP AND I RECEIVED AN EMAIL I WANT TO SHAREFOR THOSE WHO MAY CARE:

Wanted to give you a short-notice head’s up on something that is way more “chill” than the usual Projects and such. A friend named Kelly Dillon came to me a few months back and asked me about showing some of her uncle’s work that she was willed after he passed away. Jay Dillon, the name of the uncle, seems to have been a very interesting man back in the late 50’s and early 60’s while playing music with an experimental band called the GODZ while living, writing music and poetry, and painting in Manhattan. Apparently, Jay’s musical experiments and art career preceded that whole Warhol thing by quite a few years, and seemed to be something of a progenitor/contemporary of that scene. Jay passed away a few years ago and left Kelly with a lot of his paintings and his music. His story seems to parallel a lot of my own feelings on art and such (even if my revelations have come some 50 years later) and so we are hosting a sort of gallery/open-house at my (Stewart’s) home on Saturday, August 20th, 2005 from 9:30-12pm. While we are at it we are going to be showing a compilation of past Renegade Art Project Short-Films in my back yard as a prelude to our “Guerilla Drive In” at the Coatesville Film Festival on September, 17th, 2005. If you think that you might be interested in attending the open-house just shoot me an email and I will try to get some directions to you. By the way, our website is now up and running (again) and will be updated bi-weekly. Keep an eye on it for upcoming events, pix, and new merchandise.
